Indian cricket does not need Pakistan, says Harbhajan Singh

Pakistan’s renowned anchor, Wasim Badami from ARY News, was spotted as a guest at the Indian channel, Aaj Tak, where has was involved in a heated argument with the former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Things started getting fumed up discussing the current debate, which concludes that India will not come to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023.

Since the secretary of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a unilateral decision lately for not to come to Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has found it shocking and disappointing at the same time. It has also written to ACC to arrange an emergency meeting since Jay did not discuss things with other ACC members, other Asian boards, and even the board before publicizing biased decisions.

Notably, many international cricket teams have been coming to Pakistan to spend quality time and play world-class cricket under great hospitality. Where big teams like England do not find any security concerns in touring Pakistan, BCCI does not feel safe enough to be here.

Last year, the PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja accepted that BCCI is the world’s cash-richest board. But, he never said that PCB is funded by ICC. Harbhajan made the former statement as a point and lashed at Badami, taunting that Pakistan Cricket is run by India, whereas Indian cricket does not need Pakistan.

Since PCB has also threatened India for not coming to participate in ICC World Cup 2023, set to be hosted by India, Harbhajan says who is asking Pakistan to come since their participation makes no difference. He further fumed Badami saying that Indian players cannot be safe in Pakistan.

Ramiz Raza had given a statement last year that Pakistan Cricket does not have the kind of money and that they need to look towards the BCCI. Either that or if the BCCI offers PCB money, Pakistan cricket is surviving. If you feel you don’t want to come to India; please don’t. Who is asking you? If you don’t want to play in the ICC event, it’s your call. If our players are not safe there, we won’t send them. Don’t play if that’s what you want,”

Harbhajan reckoned that Pakistan Cricket couldn’t even survive without BCCI.

Of course, we have (security concerns). You tell me that you’ll take the guarantee? Indian cricket can still survive without Pakistan, and if you guys can survive without Indian cricket, do it,”

Wasim, escalated by his comments, challenged him that if it would be an ICC event in Pakistan, India would surely come to Pakistan. The leg spinner instantly accepted the challenge saying that they would not even if it was a World Cup.

Harbhajan sahab abhi keh rahe hain, ‘Hum nahi aayenge’. Mera inko challenge hai… agar ICC ka tournament, woh bhi World Cup Pakistan mein hua, ye na aayein toh mujhe batayein (Harbhajan sir is very confidently saying right now that India won’t come to Pakistan. I challenge him… that if a World Cup is held in Pakistan, and the Indian team doesn’t come, we shall see).

However, Harbhajan’s tone changed suddenly, knowing that the BCCI would have to come to knees in Pakistan if an ICC event is scheduled there. He said it is all about government and the board has nothing to do with it.

Toh le liya bhai tera challenge (I accept your challenge, buddy). Indian cricket knows how to run their cricket. We don’t need PCB. We have an issue, and we have said it. If the government gives the approval, sure.”

He further clarified that things are not in his hands as if the board feels fine in coming and is ready for Pak vs Ind cricket, then it surely will happen.

See, that is not in my hands, right? It is not my decision. If everyone feels the situation is fine, and that the two countries should play cricket, the authorities will take that call, and there will be cricket. And it has never happened previously that a team has come to India to play a series and had any issues,”
